Record Fish Caught at Bartlett Lake

fishingWhen you think of the Phoenix Metropolitan area you think of desert landscape, sunbathing at the swimming pools, golfing, spas, and shopping.  What you may not realize is how many wonderful lakes that Phoenix has to offer including Lake Pleasant, Saguaro Lake, Canyon Lake, Apache Lake and Roosevelt Lake.  With nearly 300 days of sunshine per year, you will find house boats, bass boats, sailing watercraft, and pontoon boats year round.

On Friday, April 12th, while fishing at Bartlett Lake, “Flathead Ed” broke a 25-year-old Arizona record after he caught a flathead catfish weighing in at 76.52 lbs.  The fisherman struggled for about 35 minutes before reeling in the fish.  56 year old Eddie Wilcoxson has been fishing in Arizona lakes and streams his whole life and fished 39 weekends last year. According to him, “everybody’s got the same chance as I do…” to catch a big record breaking fish. “You just have to get out and do it.”

So this Saturday when you are wondering what to do, remember what Eddie said- just get out and go fishing!
