Beware, Lest You Become What You Eat

We have all been there. It’s been a busy day and we haven’t taken the time to make our own meal so we stop at the gas station, or drive-through for a snack. The following article from Yahoo! Shine might help you think twice before making your snack choice. The statistic in the headline is quite appalling! “80% of Pre-Packaged Foods in America Are Banned in Other Countries.”

80%- REALLY? Let’s say you eat just 1 ‘pre-packaged’ snack a day. That could be anything from a bowl of cereal to crackers or cookies.  After a 10 day period, you may have choosen a snack that is actually legal to consume in other countries only 2 times. Of course in those 2 times, you may still not be eating something that is necessarily healthy, but it might be less likely to cause cancer, asthma, or gastrointestinal issues. If you don’t do it for you, then read the article for your kids by clicking on the title above. Let’s do all we can to make sure that our kids don’t turn into a pile of tar or foamed plastic. Yep, you read it right, some of the preservatives in our beloved snack foods are the very same items used to make plastic and tar.

Of course knowing something is bad for you and having a solution of something convenient and healthy is sometimes harder. I would love to hear about any of your healthy, but easy snack solutions! I also wanted to share a few Scottsdale Restaurants that use all or mostly organic ingredients and where you can be assured they aren’t using one of the items listed in the article!
