Closures Starting This Weekend

Many of us long time AZ residents remember what it was like before major sections of the Loop 101 Freeway were complete. The initial construction of the freeway started in the 1980’s. Finally by 2001 the loop was complete with connections to the Loop 202, US 60,  SR 51, Interstate 17, and Interstate 10.

As the Phoenix Metro area has continued to grow in population, the demand for accessible freeways has also grown. In an effort to keep up with the traffic, areas of the loop will be under construction yet again as they gear up to add one lane in each direction between the Loop 202 interchange and Shea Blvd.

The first closure will be the northbound lanes between 90th ST and Shea Blvd this weekend starting at 10pm on Friday 8/8/14 and ending at 7am on Saturday. All lanes are supposed to remain open during weekday commutes with closures on the weekends as the project progresses.

For more information on closures, visit the Arizona Department of Transportation website.
